June 2020

June was mostly a shelter-in-place month. We continued hiking and our health club partially reopened for tennis and swimming. Jon's tea, went into the San Francisco office to conduct a workshop with the executive team. It was eerie.

Buck Institute

Buck Institute is an I.M. Pei building on the side of Mt. Burdell, an open space preserve near our house. Until now, the property has been kept private, but the Marin County Open Space District has installed new gates (and moved the no trespassing, private property signs). It is now possible to hike to the top of Mt. Burdell on the Burdell Mountain Fire Road. The picture below is a new view of Bucks buildings from the newly opened road.

Forces of Change

Jon's Strategic Foresight team conducts and annual workshop with Autodesk's executive team to evaluate our assumptions about the big forces operating on our business. This year, we had to do it virtually. The team did an amazing job orchestrating the workshop using Zoom, Mural, Slace, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and probably a few other tools. This is a picture of our Zoom-master, Hilmar's desktop.

Mega Hike

Autodesk took June 19th as a company holiday so Jon did a 8.25 mile hike on Mt. Burdell to explore the newly-opened (almost) Burdell Mountain Fire Road and Eagle Ridge Trails.

Foresight Fundamentals

Jon took a Foresight Fundamentals course at the Institute for the Future. The course was originally planned as an in-person course but, of course, was held virtually.
