February 2021

February marked almost a year of shelter-in place. We did figure out how to fry chicken and do some flying and biking. Jon also announced, after 25 years at Autodesk, his retirement from Autodesk upcoming in early May. That will allow more time for bike-riding, flying, tennis, reading, travel, and other activities.

Backyard Fried Chicken

Jon like's Care's fried chicken but she does not like to make it at home since it smells up the house. Our solution - an electric frying pan in the back yard. Fried chicken without the smell - and the neighborhood smells like KFC!

Napa and Santa Rosa Instrument Approaches

I got a new cable for my GoPro cameras that allows me to record from the aircraft intercom - this gives a good perspective on air traffic control radio communications. I went up and shot the GPS1LZ LPV approach into Napa (KAPC) with a climbing left turn to the Scaggs Island VOR then the GPS32 LPV approach into Santa Rosa (KSTS). The first video Napa approach beginning with a hold over Richmond and ending with a missed approach and setup for Santa Rosa.

This video the Santa Rosa approach.

Rush Creek 360

Rode the Bahia Trail at the Rush Creek Open Space from Bahia to the Rush Creek Fire road using my Max360 camera mounted on top of my helmet. The is one of the few single track trails that are legal for mountain biking in the open space district and one of my favorite rides. Check out the 360 view.
