November 2021

November was a transitional month, the leaves began changing and there was a chill in the air. Jon took a solo trip to Sea Ranch and stayed in the Charles Moore condo - one of the original condos designed by one of the original Sea Ranch architects.

Poor Man's Pizza Oven

For Jon's birthday in October, Care got Jon a pizza Baking Steel. In early November, we turned our gas BBQ grill into a pizza oven. The result was pretty good but the bottom of the crust was burned. Looks like we need to leave it in the oven a little less time as we refine our technique.

Sea Ranch - Charles Moore Condo

In mid-November, jon took a solo trip to Sea Ranch. He stayed in Charles Moore's Condo #9. This was one of the original condos designed by Charles Moore, one of the original Sea Ranch architects. The condo is on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, just down the hill from the Sea Ranch Lodge at Black Point. It was built in 1965 and was showing its age. The design was iconic California architecture and the condo was populated with a lot of Moore's art work. It was an interesting place to stay.

Yard Work

At the end of November, we had our gardener do an extensive revamp our yard. He cleaned up some planting that had gotten scraggly, mulched in preparation for the winter season and, most importantly, took out some fire-prone plants and replaced mulch next to the house with decomposed granite. The fire hardening was at the recommendation of the Novato Fire Protection District to help our house better withstand wild fires.
